Marketing During a Pandemic

In this episode, I want to share my most recent personal experience with success using the same branding & marketing strategies I always have but this time, during a Pandemic.

We have to constantly pay attention to what we want out of our bridal business and trends in the industry, what’s shifting, what’s happening and always put ourselves in our clients shoes, that’s SUPER important! 

After Covid struck I saw the industry make a few turns. The first thing we saw was 2020 Brides rescheduling to 2021. For a minute we weren’t even sure if we would be able to work at ALL in 2020.Then, things slowly started to open up lil by lil. That’s when we saw Bride’s begin to switch their plans from a Big wedding in 2021 to Eloping in 2020 and possibly another larger celebration in 2021 or 2022.

I noticed that Brides were getting frustrated with having all their plans ruined, having to change their plans numerous times and then they also realized that Covid might not be gone in time for a big wedding in 2021 either. Many of my Brides told me “I just want to be MARRIED already!”

So paying attention to what’s happening I quickly shifted my focus from large bridal parties to intimate nature Elopements. Conveniently I had already stacked up some portfolio work of Weddings in the prettiest Destination locations near me. 

Here’s the thing though, those locations are all 3-4 hours drive for me, which means I need to factor in lodging and travel fees into my pricing. So how do you get Brides to book you, even though your pricing is definitely higher than locals in the area & there’s a pandemic happening?

I’ll break it down but it all comes down to Branding, Marketing and good old fashion Customer Service!

You need to BRAND yourself as an expert. Brides want to know who they’re hiring & why you’re the BEST fit. Even if Sheila down the street charges less than you, does she Specialize in what your Bride is looking for? That’s what’s going to separate you and add value to your services.

One way I love to showcase a level of expertise in my branding is by posting images that portray that. For example, after seeing the shifts in our Industry, I wanted to book Elopements in Lake Tahoe, Yosemite and Big Sur. So I posted photos of my work in those areas and talked about those areas. I shared tips and behind the scenes catering to Brides who are booking those areas.

Instagram Marketing strategies are always my favorite because you will see results pretty quickly! Every time I think I’m going through a slow season or a dry spell, it’s usually because I fell off my Instagram game. As SOON as I start posting again, I see inquiries coming in! This had worked over & over again and yes even this year during the pandemic.

The last piece of this equation of success is delivering excellent customer service.

This last year or so I began making phone consultations mandatory as a part of the booking process. This is because I realized that you can communicate SO much over a quick 15 minute call versus 15 emails back and forth. This allows you to build a personal connection with your potential Bride and honestly, SCREEN your Bride as well. After over a decade of working with tons of Brides, I have no time or patience for Bridezillas! I know you feel me on that one! 

Building a personal connection, is the secret sauce to sealing the deal. This sets you apart from other pro’s in your sphere of competition. Us women like to buy based on our emotions, if we have the option, we’re going to book the person we felt connected with. So really in this whole equation, you’re hitting multiple key decision making factors.

Positioning yourself as the EXPERT, Marketing yourself to be seen and building a personal Connection!
